About Canuck Place Children's Hospice
Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is a story of courage and vision, and a shining example of the good that comes when individuals and organizations see a need in their community and work to fill it. In this case, the need was to provide another care option for children with life-limiting illnesses and their families – an option that would give families the added flexibility to access hospice care when hospital or home care could no longer meet their needs.
This vision became reality in November 1995 when Canuck Place opened as North America’s first free-standing children’s hospice. Today, it remains the model for children’s hospices in North America providing hospice care free-of-charge to children and their entire families. Canuck Place is regarded as one of the leading children’s hospices in the world.
Your contribution is more important than ever. Thanks for your support.
Canuck Place first opened it's doors 16 years ago and has since helped hundreds of BC families in their greatest time of need. To meet the growing need, Canuck Place has started construction on a 10-bed, 5 family suite, 30,000 square foot hospice in Abbotsford which will essentially double the capacity of Canuck Place. The Abbotsford location will make their program available closer to home for many BC children and families in the Fraser Valley and Interior, lessening their need for travel.
The Provincial goverment is contributing $1.5 million to the project through the Provincial Health Services Authority. Additional funds will be raised through fundraising efforts by Canuck Place and private donors. The campaign goal is to raise $9.75 million, to go toward construction of the facility and operating costs.
